Cheapest airport taxi in Europe: the 10 lowest fares

Low fares come from two things: an airport close to town, and a low national tariff. Faro, Heraklion and Larnaca are only a few kilometres from the centre, while Bucharest, Sofia and Antalya have low per-kilometre rates.

  1. Faro – around €10 to Faro city, a 10-minute hop (but €50–70 to Albufeira).
  2. Bucharest Otopeni – around 50–80 lei (≈ €10–16), ordered from the touch-screens in Arrivals.
  3. Sofia – around €13–14 on the meter from the OK Supertrans desk.
  4. Antalya – around 700–1,000 TL (≈ €13–18) to the centre; resorts cost much more.
  5. Heraklion – around €15–20, because the airport is almost in town.
  6. Larnaca – around €15–25 to Larnaca town.
  7. Malta – fixed €17 to Valletta and €20 to Sliema or St Julian’s.
  8. Lisbon – fixed zone fares of €16–19 by day at participating taxis.
  9. Corfu – around €20–30 to Corfu Town.
  10. Naples – fixed €21–28.50, if you ask for the tariffa predeterminata.

Most expensive airport taxi in Europe: the 10 highest fares

The dearest rides are either long (Malpensa is around 50 km from Milan) or in high-cost cities with strict tariffs. At these airports a train or express bus usually saves a solo traveller €40–100, but for three or four people a fixed taxi fare can come close to the cost of separate tickets.

  1. Milan Malpensa – €114 fixed to any address in Milan, for a trip of around 50–70 minutes.
  2. Munich – €96 fixed to the Hauptbahnhof zone when booked through the dispatch centre or taxi.eu app.
  3. London Heathrow – about £61–114 (≈ €72–135) on a black-cab meter.
  4. Paris CDG – €56 to the Right Bank, €65 to the Left Bank.
  5. Rome Fiumicino – €55 inside the Aurelian Walls.
  6. Zurich – around CHF 50–70 (≈ €54–75) for a short ride.
  7. Geneva – CHF 50–60 (≈ €53–64) flat, for a city that is 7 minutes away by train.
  8. Amsterdam Schiphol – around €50–80 on the meter.
  9. Athens – €50 by day, €65 between midnight and 05:00.
  10. Dubrovnik – around €40–60 to the Old Town.

  • Rome Fiumicino: €55 inside the Aurelian Walls with Roma Capitale white taxis. Press reports say taxis licensed by the town of Fiumicino charge more, so use the Rome rank.

Airport taxi prices by region

UK and Ireland

The UK and Ireland use meters, and prices rise at night and on public holidays.

France, Benelux and Switzerland

Spain and Portugal

Iberian airport taxis are among the cheapest in western Europe. Night and weekend tariffs add roughly 20% in Portugal.

Italy and Malta

Italian cities set fixed airport fares, but you often have to ask for them.

Germany and Austria

Central and eastern Europe and the Balkans

This is where airport taxis are cheapest, but use the official desk or rank: unofficial drivers can charge several times the tariff.

Greece and Cyprus

Greek taxis charge extra between midnight and 05:00; on the islands, drivers often quote a set price instead of the meter.

Croatia and Turkey

Turkish fares are quoted in lira and change often with inflation; the euro figures use around 55 TL to €1 (October 2026).

Ski gateways

For ski resorts a taxi is rarely the cheapest option: long runs are quoted, not metered, and a fixed-price transfer or shared shuttle usually costs less.

How we compiled these prices

Prices come from our 40 airport-to-city guides, researched in October 2026. Where a city or airport publishes an official fixed fare (Paris, Rome, Milan, Munich, Athens, Thessaloniki, Naples, Lisbon, Nice, Venice, Geneva, Malta, Kraków), we quote it. Where taxis are metered, we give the typical fare reported for 2026 and write “around”. Euro conversions for non-euro currencies are approximate and rounded. Prices are per vehicle for a normal car with up to four passengers and ordinary luggage. Tariffs change – often in January or February – so check the airport or city website before you travel.

Tips for taking a taxi from a European airport

  • Use the official rank or desk. Ignore anyone offering a ride inside the arrivals hall; at most airports they are not licensed.
  • Ask for the fixed fare before you set off in Naples, Rome and Lisbon, and confirm the zone (Paris Right or Left Bank).
  • Night tariffs: Athens, Thessaloniki, Lisbon, Sofia, Faro and Porto charge more at night; Paris and Milan fixed fares do not change.
  • Groups: the fare is per car, so for three or four people a fixed fare in Paris, Munich or Athens can cost about the same as train tickets.
  • Card payment: Paris taxis must accept cards; elsewhere ask before you set off, and carry some cash in the Balkans and Turkey.
  • Want a fixed price everywhere? A pre-booked transfer is quoted in advance and the driver tracks your flight. Compare local companies on the airport pages above, such as Barcelona Airport transfers or Rome Fiumicino Airport transfers.
