Sofia Airport (SOF) is about 10 km east of the city centre. There are three main ways into town:
Sofia Airport is the main arrival point for skiers. Private transfers to Bansko take about 2.5–3 hours and start from roughly €80–100 per car, while shared shuttles start from about €22 per person. Borovets is about 1–1.5 hours away. Plovdiv is about 2 hours by motorway.
Most airlines use Terminal 2. Low-cost carriers such as Ryanair and Wizz Air usually use Terminal 1. Tell your transfer company your flight number so the driver goes to the right terminal. Some companies note a terminal entry fee of around €10 for pick-ups, so ask whether it is included in your price.
For a budget ride, look at Transfers BG or ExLimousine. For business and VIP arrivals, BG Trans, Bulgarian Limousine Services and Bulgarian Transfers run Mercedes E-Class, S-Class and V-Class cars. For Bansko, compare BanskoShuttle, Bansko Transfers and Pirin Transfers.
Cross-border transfers from Sofia also go to Skopje and Ohrid in North Macedonia.
Pre-booked private transfers from Sofia Airport to the city centre are advertised from about €24 to €40 per car. A Mercedes E-Class costs from about €65.
Yes. Metro line M4 starts at Terminal 2 and reaches Serdika in the city centre in about 20 minutes. From Terminal 1, take the free shuttle bus to Terminal 2.
About 160 km, which takes 2.5–3 hours by car, longer in heavy snow.
Low-cost airlines such as Ryanair and Wizz Air usually use Terminal 1. Most other airlines use Terminal 2. Always check your booking.
