How to get from Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport to the city centre in 2026: free buses 72 and 600, the A1 minibus, fixed-price taxi vouchers, ride-hailing apps, private transfers and routes to Novi Sad and Kopaonik.
The cheapest way from Belgrade Airport to the city centre is city bus 72 to Zeleni Venac or bus 600 to Beograd Centar railway station: both are free, because Belgrade has not charged fares on its city buses since 1 January 2025, and the ride takes roughly 30–40 minutes. The easiest option is a fixed-price taxi voucher from the airport e-kiosks, at around RSD 3,000–3,500 (≈ €26–€30) to the old centre for up to four people. If you prefer a driver waiting in arrivals with your name on a sign, compare operators on our Belgrade Airport transfers page.

How to get from Belgrade Airport to the city centre
Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG) is in Surčin, about 18 km west of the old town. The road runs along the E70 motorway past New Belgrade (Novi Beograd), crosses the Sava and reaches the centre around Zeleni Venac, Slavija and Terazije. There is no rail or metro link to the airport, so every option is by road. Which one suits you depends mostly on where you are staying: the old centre (Stari Grad, Savski Venac, Vračar), New Belgrade, or further out.
Belgrade Airport bus 72 to Zeleni Venac
Bus 72 is the classic airport bus run by GSP Beograd, the city transport company. It leaves from the stop in front of the arrivals area and ends at Zeleni Venac, a bus hub just below the pedestrian street Knez Mihailova and a short walk from Republic Square. The ride takes about 30–40 minutes depending on traffic. According to the City of Belgrade, buses leave the airport from about 05:20 until around midnight, and leave Zeleni Venac for the airport from about 04:40 until about 23:40.
Is bus 72 free?
Yes. Since 1 January 2025 the city has made public transport free on GSP buses, trams and trolleybuses for all passengers, and bus 72 is part of the city network. Older guides that quote a ticket price or tell you to buy a BusPlus card for bus 72 are out of date. You simply board. Note that bus 72 is a normal city bus: it can be crowded at peak times and there are no proper luggage racks, so it works best with a cabin bag or one medium suitcase.
Belgrade Airport bus 600 to Beograd Centar railway station
Line 600 started in November 2023 and links the airport with Beograd Centar, the main railway station often called Prokop, finishing on Gučevska Street nearby. On the way it crosses New Belgrade via Bežanijska Kosa, Tošin Bunar, Blok 28 and Blok 42, then passes the Belgrade Fair (Sajam). It serves both terminals at the airport. Published timetables show the first departure from the airport at about 04:30 and the last at about 23:55, with buses roughly every 30 minutes through the day (at around :15 and :45 past the hour). Like bus 72, it is free.
Bus 600 is the better choice if you are catching a train, for example the fast service to Novi Sad, or if your hotel is in New Belgrade near Blok 28 or the Fair. For the old town, bus 72 drops you closer.
Minibus A1 to Slavija Square
The A1 is a private express minibus between the airport and Slavija Square, in the southern part of the centre near the Vračar and Hram Svetog Save areas. It is not part of the free city network: the fare is RSD 400 (≈ €3.40), paid in cash to the driver, according to recent visitor information from event organisers in Belgrade. It runs roughly every 25–30 minutes and takes about 30 minutes, with fewer stops than the city buses and more room for bags. It does not run through the night, so for very late arrivals use a taxi or a pre-booked transfer.
Belgrade Airport taxi price and the voucher system
Taxis from Belgrade Airport do not run on the meter for trips into the city. Instead the airport uses fixed-price vouchers by zone. Here is how it works, according to the airport:
- After passport control, find one of the four e-kiosks: three are in the baggage claim area and one is in the passenger lounge in arrivals.
- Choose your destination. The kiosk prints a confirmation showing the fixed fare for that zone.
- Go to the official taxi stand in front of the arrivals terminal and take the first taxi in the queue.
- The driver must charge only the fare printed on the confirmation. The price covers up to four passengers, and luggage that fits in the boot is included.
How much is a taxi from Belgrade Airport to the city centre?
The zone prices set by the city in December 2022 were RSD 2,300 for New Belgrade and parts of Zemun and Surčin, and RSD 3,000 for the central municipalities (Stari Grad, Savski Venac, Vračar and parts of Palilula, Voždovac, Zvezdara and Čukarica), with higher zones up to RSD 9,900 for outlying towns such as Obrenovac or Mladenovac. Some 2026 visitor information quotes RSD 3,500 (≈ €30) for the central zone, so expect around RSD 3,000–3,500 (≈ €26–€30) to the old centre and check the price on the kiosk screen before you print. The ride takes about 20–35 minutes.
Ignore drivers who approach you inside the arrivals hall offering a taxi. Licensed Belgrade taxis have registration plates ending in “TX”. If a driver asks for more than the voucher amount, refuse and note the car number; complaints go to the city’s inspection service. Local press has reported occasional cases of drivers swapping vouchers, so keep your own printout in your hand until you reach your destination.
Uber, CarGo and Yandex Go at Belgrade Airport
Uber does not operate in Serbia. The ride-hailing apps that work in Belgrade are Yandex Go, which dispatches licensed partner taxis and shows an estimated fare before pickup, and the local app CarGo. Both can be useful in town, and you can request a car to the airport pickup area, but the price is set by the app and can be higher or lower than the voucher depending on demand. Download the app and add a payment method before you fly, and check that the plate and driver match the app before getting in.
Pre-booked private transfers from Belgrade Airport
The voucher taxi is fair value for one to four people with ordinary bags, but a pre-booked private transfer is often worth it if:
- you land late at night, when the A1 has stopped and buses are infrequent;
- you travel with children and need a child seat, which ordinary taxis rarely carry;
- you are a group of five or more, or have ski bags, bikes or a lot of luggage that needs a minivan;
- you want meet and greet inside arrivals and a price agreed in advance, in euros or dinars;
- you are heading straight to Novi Sad, Kopaonik or another city, where a fixed long-distance price is simpler than a taxi meter on tariff 3.
Our Belgrade Airport transfers page lists local operators you can contact and book directly. Companies serving the airport include Executive Car Service (ECS Serbia), Belgrade.limo, Belgrade Chauffeur, Transfers in Belgrade, Premium Mobility Belgrade and Serbia Transfers. Ask each one what is included: waiting time if your flight is late, child seats, and whether the price is per vehicle. For transport around town after arrival, see our Belgrade transfers and taxis page.
Getting from Belgrade Airport to Novi Sad, Kopaonik and beyond
Belgrade Airport to Novi Sad
Novi Sad, Serbia’s second city and home of the EXIT festival, is roughly 80–90 km north of the airport, around an hour by motorway. By public transport the quickest route is free bus 600 to Beograd Centar, then the Soko high-speed train, which covers the 75 km to Novi Sad in about 36 minutes. Seat reservations are compulsory on Soko and tickets cost more than on regional trains; check times and fares with Srbijavoz before you travel. Intercity buses also run frequently from Belgrade’s bus station. For a door-to-door ride, see our Novi Sad transfers page.
Belgrade Airport to Kopaonik
Kopaonik, Serbia’s main ski resort, is roughly 280–300 km south, around four hours by road via the motorway and then mountain roads, longer in snow. Public transport means a coach from Belgrade’s main bus station, so most skiers arriving by air book a transfer; see our Belgrade Airport to Kopaonik guide. Operators are listed on our Kopaonik transfers page. In winter, vehicles in Serbia must carry winter equipment, so make sure a hired car has winter tyres.
Zemun and New Belgrade
Zemun, with its riverside restaurants on the Danube, and the business district of New Belgrade are both in the cheapest taxi zone from the airport, and bus 600 crosses New Belgrade on its way to the station.
Tips for arriving at Belgrade Airport
- Night arrivals: buses 72 and 600 stop around midnight and the A1 does not run all night. Use the voucher taxi or pre-book.
- Cash: have some dinars for the A1 minibus and small purchases. There are ATMs and exchange offices in arrivals; airport rates are usually worse than in town.
- Card payment: ask before the ride whether the taxi takes cards. Many do, but not all.
- Unlicensed drivers: only use the official rank after printing a voucher, and refuse any offer made in the arrivals hall.
- Tipping: not expected for taxis; rounding up is common for good service.
- Traffic: the E70 motorway and the bridges over the Sava get busy on weekday mornings and late afternoons; allow extra time when heading to the airport.
- Free public transport: the fare-free scheme applies to city buses, trams and trolleybuses. It does not cover the private A1 minibus, intercity buses or trains.
