Coach, taxi or private transfer? Prices in dinars and euros, journey times, the Niš Airport alternative and Serbian winter driving rules for getting from Belgrade Airport to Kopaonik in 2026/27.
The easiest way to get from Belgrade Airport to Kopaonik is a pre-booked private transfer, which covers the roughly 290 km in about 4 hours in clear conditions. Kopaonik is Serbia’s largest ski resort, in the south of the country between Kruševac, Kraljevo and Raška. The ski area tops out at Pančićev vrh (2,017 m) and has around 55 km of pistes. The resort plans to open for 2026/27 on 3 December 2026 and close on 11 April 2027, snow permitting.
How to get to Kopaonik by road
There are two main routes from Belgrade, and transfer drivers choose between them depending on weather and traffic:
- Via Kruševac and Brus. The A1 motorway south towards Niš as far as the Pojate junction, then east-south through Kruševac and Brus, climbing to the resort from the north-east.
- Via Kraljevo and Raška (the Ibar route). The Miloš Veliki motorway towards Čačak, then the Ibar valley road through Kraljevo to Raška. Raška is about 252 km from Belgrade, and from there it is about 28 km up to Kopaonik via Rudnica.
Both routes end with a long mountain climb where snow and ice slow traffic. Allow at least 4 hours from Belgrade Airport, and up to 5 hours on busy winter weekends.
Belgrade to Kopaonik bus
There is no public bus from Belgrade Airport straight to Kopaonik. You first travel into New Belgrade to the main intercity bus station, then take a coach.
Getting to Belgrade’s main bus station
Belgrade’s main intercity bus station (BAS) moved in September 2024 from the old site by the river to a new building in Block 42, New Belgrade. City bus line 600, which runs between the airport and Belgrade Railway Station, is among the lines that serve the new station. Belgrade’s city public transport has been free since 1 January 2025; the separate A1 airport minibus to Slavija is outside the city tariff system. A taxi from the airport to the bus station is a short ride on the fixed-price voucher system.
Timetable, fares and journey time
Recent timetables show coaches from BAS to Kopaonik run by Jugoprevoz Kruševac and Kavim Raška, both leaving at 07:00 and arriving at the Sunčani vrhovi stop in the resort at about 12:15 – roughly 5 h 15 min. The fare has been 2,890 RSD (≈ €25) one way, with a return at 4,620 RSD (≈ €39) on the Jugoprevoz service. Return coaches have left Kopaonik in the afternoon (14:45 and 16:00 in recent listings). Winter timetables can add departures, so check BAS or the operators before travel. Tickets are sold at the station counters; online booking is available for some departures.
Luggage
Coaches have hold space, but ski bags are not guaranteed a place and drivers may charge for bulky items. The 07:00 departure means a night in Belgrade for almost all international arrivals.
Belgrade Airport to Kopaonik taxi
Belgrade Airport runs a fixed-price voucher system for taxis: e-kiosks in the baggage claim area and the arrivals lounge print a confirmation with the fare, valid for up to four passengers, and you take the first taxi at the official rank in front of arrivals. The drivers must charge only the printed fare. The vouchers are designed for trips within Belgrade, though – there is no published fare to Kopaonik. For a 290 km mountain run, agree the full price, including ski bags and any waiting, before you set off. Ignore drivers who approach you inside the terminal.
A pre-booked transfer is usually simpler: the price is fixed in advance and the vehicle is chosen for your group and gear.
Pre-booked private transfers to Kopaonik
Private transfers are priced per vehicle, not per seat, so the cost per person falls quickly for families and groups. For six to eight skiers sharing a minibus, compare the per-person cost with the coach fare plus a night in a Belgrade hotel – the transfer also gets you to your hotel door on arrival day. Private transfers are especially worth it when:
- you land in the afternoon or evening, when no coaches run;
- you travel with children and need baby seats or boosters (give ages when booking);
- you carry several ski or board bags and boot bags;
- you want a driver who knows the mountain road and carries chains;
- your flight is often delayed – most companies track flights and include waiting time.
Compare local operators on our Belgrade Airport transfers page and on the Kopaonik transfers page, and book directly with the company. Companies listed for these routes include Executive Car Service (ECS Serbia), Kopaonik VIP, Kopaonik Tours & Excursions, Belgrade Chauffeur, Transfers in Belgrade and Niš Transfer. Ask each one whether the quote covers ski bags, tolls, night supplements and the return journey, and whether it is in dinars or euros.
Niš Airport to Kopaonik
Niš Constantine the Great Airport is about 4 km from Niš city centre and around 125 km from Kopaonik – about 2–2.5 hours by road. It is the nearest international airport to the resort, but it has far fewer flights than Belgrade. Wizz Air and Air Serbia serve Niš, while Ryanair has suspended its Niš flights for winter 2026/27, so check which routes operate on your dates. There is no direct public bus from Niš Airport to Kopaonik, so most skiers book a transfer in advance. See Niš Airport transfers or, if you stay in the city first, Niš transfers.
Driving to Kopaonik: winter equipment and tolls
Car hire desks are in the arrivals area at Belgrade Airport. Rules for a winter drive in Serbia:
- Winter tyres. From 1 November to 1 April, cars must have winter tyres on all four wheels when there is snow, ice or frost on the road, with a minimum tread of 4 mm. Fines for drivers start at 10,000 RSD.
- Snow chains. In the same period you must carry chains (or another approved grip device) in the car and fit them to the drive wheels where signs require it – typical on mountain roads like the climb to Kopaonik.
- Tolls. Serbian motorways have toll booths rather than a vignette. You pay at the exit in dinars; keep some cash as well as a card.
- Parking. Ask your hotel or apartment about parking before arrival, especially in the busy resort centre.
Saturday transfer day and peak traffic
Kopaonik is busiest during the New Year and Orthodox Christmas holidays (early January), Serbian school winter holidays and weekends from January to March. Friday evenings and Saturdays see the heaviest traffic on the mountain approaches. Add an hour at peak times. For the return, plan to leave the resort at least 5–6 hours before a flight from Belgrade.
Ski luggage, child seats and late arrivals
Tell your transfer company how many ski or board bags and boot bags you have. A saloon car fits two skiers with gear at most; book a minivan for four or more. Renting equipment in the resort makes the coach easier. Child seats are not supplied on coaches, but private transfer companies can usually provide them on request.
Many winter flights land in Belgrade in the afternoon or evening. As the coach leaves at 07:00, a late arrival means either a night in Belgrade or a private transfer straight to the mountain.
Belgrade and other places nearby
- Belgrade. If you spend a night before or after skiing, see Belgrade transfers.
- Raška and Novi Pazar. Raška is the nearest town on the Ibar route, about 28 km from the resort; Novi Pazar is a further 21 km on.
- Kraljevo and Kruševac. The two larger towns on the approach routes, useful as overnight stops if you drive yourself.
Tips for your Kopaonik transfer
- Book peak dates early. New Year and early January fill minibuses first.
- Carry some dinars. Coach tickets, tolls and small purchases are easiest in RSD; many transfer companies also quote in euros.
- Use official taxis only. At Belgrade Airport, take a voucher from the e-kiosk and use the official rank.
- Check road conditions. After heavy snow, the final climb can close briefly or require chains; your driver will know.
- Pick-up point. Give your exact hotel or apartment name – Kopaonik’s accommodation is spread across several areas.
