Naples Airport to City Centre, Sorrento & Amalfi Coast: 2026 Guide

Updated · 7 min read

How to get from Naples Airport to the city centre, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast in 2026: Alibus, fixed taxi fares, the Curreri bus, the Circumvesuviana, ferries and private transfers.

The cheapest way from Naples Airport to the city centre is the Alibus shuttle, which runs to Piazza Garibaldi (Napoli Centrale station) in about 15 minutes and on to the port at Molo Beverello in about 35 minutes, for a €5 single ticket. A taxi is easiest, with fixed fares set by the City of Naples: €21 to the station and historic centre, €24 to Molo Beverello and €28.50 to the seafront hotels. For Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast, the Curreri bus, the Circumvesuviana train or a pre-booked car all work; compare drivers on our Naples Airport transfers page.

November 2026: Naples Capodichino is closed to all flights from 1 to 30 November 2026 for runway and taxiway works. Some flights move to Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport during the closure (see below), so check which airport your booking shows.

Alibus: Naples Airport bus to the city centre

Alibus is the airport shuttle run by ANM, the Naples city transport company. It links the airport with Piazza Garibaldi (outside Napoli Centrale and Napoli Garibaldi stations), then Immacolatella / Porta di Massa and Molo Angioino / Beverello, next to the Stazione Marittima cruise terminal and Piazza Municipio. The airport gives journey times of about 15 minutes to the central station and about 35 minutes to the port, though traffic can stretch this at busy times.

Alibus price and tickets

A single Alibus ticket costs €5 and is valid for 90 minutes from validation. Buy it from the ticket machines on the ground floor of Arrivals, online, or from tobacconists and newsstands; buying on board costs extra. Validate it as soon as you board. Ordinary city tickets are not valid on Alibus.

Buses run around every 20 minutes from early morning (about 06:00) until late evening (around 23:30–midnight), with slightly different hours at weekends. Check the latest timetable on the Naples Airport bus page, which links to ANM. Space for big suitcases is limited, and on summer afternoons the bus can be full of passengers heading for the ferries.

Is there a metro from Naples Airport?

Not yet. A Line 1 metro station at Capodichino airport is under construction, with opening expected between late 2026 and early 2027. Until it opens, Alibus, taxis and transfers are the options. Once at Piazza Garibaldi you can change to metro Line 1 or Line 2, the Circumvesuviana or mainline trains.

Naples Airport taxi fixed price

Licensed Naples taxis are white and wait at the rank outside Arrivals. Under the City of Naples tariff (Giunta decision 258 of 27 June 2024), trips from the airport to set destinations have predetermined fares per vehicle:

  • €21 to Napoli Centrale / Piazza Garibaldi, Centro Direzionale, the historic centre (ZTL) and Capodimonte;
  • €24 to the port, Molo Beverello, Piazza Municipio, Teatro San Carlo and the Archaeological Museum (MANN);
  • €28.50 to the hotels on Via Partenope (seafront), Mergellina, San Martino (Vomero) and the Maradona stadium area.

The fixed fare includes the airport supplement and luggage. You must ask for the tariffa predeterminata when you get in, before the trip starts; otherwise the driver may use the meter, which is usually more expensive. Motorway tolls are extra, and a minivan carrying more than four passengers adds €5. A €6 per-person shared taxi also runs from the airport to the central station and Molo Beverello, leaving once three passengers are on board; ask at the rank.

Uber at Naples Airport

Uber operates in Naples through licensed taxis (Uber Taxi and Taxi Van) and van services. The app shows the fare before you book; compare it with the fixed taxi fare from the rank, which is often the simpler option for the city centre. Use the app’s pick-up instructions for the meeting point outside Arrivals.

Naples Airport to Sorrento

Sorrento is about 50 km from the airport. There are three main ways to get there.

Curreri bus from Naples Airport to Sorrento

Curreri Viaggi runs a direct airport bus to Sorrento for €13. Departures from the airport are at 09:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:30, 16:30, 18:00 and 19:30, and the trip to Sorrento train station takes about 75 minutes, longer in high-season traffic. The bus stops at Castellammare di Stabia, Vico Equense, Meta, Piano di Sorrento and Sant’Agnello on the way (Pompeii on reservation). It leaves from the tourist bus parking area; book online on the Curreri Viaggi website, up to four hours before departure. There is no service on 25 December or 1 January.

Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento

Take Alibus to Piazza Garibaldi, then the EAV Circumvesuviana train from Napoli Garibaldi to Sorrento. Trains run about every 30 minutes from early morning to around 22:00 and take about 70–75 minutes. A single costs around €5. Make sure your train is going to Sorrento, as some terminate earlier. The trains are crowded in summer and have little luggage space; keep an eye on your bags. In season EAV also runs the Campania Express, a tourist service with reserved seats and fewer stops, at a higher fare.

Taxi or transfer to Sorrento

Taxis can take you to Sorrento, but the fare is far higher than the city fares, at around €125 per vehicle plus tolls. A pre-booked transfer gives you a fixed price, a larger vehicle if needed and door-to-door service to hotels that are hard to reach on foot.

Naples Airport to Positano and Amalfi

There is no direct public transport from the airport to Positano or Amalfi. The usual budget route is the Curreri bus or Circumvesuviana to Sorrento, then a SITA bus along the coast road: around 40 minutes to Positano and about 1.5 hours to Amalfi. SITA tickets are not sold on board; buy them at tobacconists or the booth at Sorrento station. A 24-hour Costierasita ticket costs €10. From May to October the buses are often full, and drivers may pass stops without room.

From April to October, ferries also run from Molo Beverello (reached by Alibus) to Sorrento (about 40 minutes, from around €16), Positano (about 80 minutes, from around €27.50) and Amalfi, as well as to Capri and Ischia. Sailings are reduced or stopped outside the season and in rough seas.

With luggage, children or a tight schedule, most visitors heading to Positano, Amalfi or Ravello book a private transfer; the drive is about 1.5–2 hours depending on traffic. Taxi fares from the airport to the coast are around €145 to Positano and €155 to Amalfi per vehicle.

Pre-booked private transfers from Naples Airport

A pre-booked transfer is worth it when:

  • you are going to Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi or Ravello and want to avoid two changes with luggage;
  • you are a family or group of five or more and need a minivan;
  • you need child seats, which standard taxis do not normally carry;
  • you land late, after the last Curreri bus (19:30) or when the coast buses have stopped;
  • you want a fixed price and a driver waiting in Arrivals with your name.

Operators listed on intransfers.com include Radio Taxi Partenope for city taxis, Curreri Viaggi for the Sorrento airport bus, and Sorrento Limousine, Positano Limo Service and Benvenuto Limos for the coast. Contact them directly to compare prices and vehicles. All operators are on our Naples Airport transfers page, with more on the Naples transfers, Sorrento transfers and Amalfi Coast transfers pages.

Getting to Pompeii and Salerno from Naples Airport

  • Pompeii: the Circumvesuviana from Napoli Garibaldi stops at Pompei Scavi – Villa dei Misteri, next to the ruins, in about 35–40 minutes. The Curreri airport bus also stops at Pompeii if you reserve. A taxi costs around €70 per vehicle.
  • Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport: reopened to passenger flights in 2024 and is the closest airport to Amalfi. During the November 2026 Naples closure, a Busitalia Campania shuttle runs eight times a day each way between Napoli Centrale (Piazza Garibaldi) and Salerno Airport for €12, and the Salerno Airlink bus links the airport with Salerno station.
  • Rome: if you are combining Naples with Rome, see our guide to Rome Fiumicino Airport to the city centre.

Tips for arriving at Naples Airport

  • Ask for the fixed fare: say “tariffa predeterminata” before the taxi moves, and make sure your destination is on the list. Take taxis only from the official rank, and ignore drivers offering rides inside the terminal.
  • Night arrivals: Alibus stops around midnight, so a taxi at the fixed fare or a pre-booked car is the option for late flights.
  • Payment: keep some cash for tobacconists and taxis, even though cards are widely accepted.
  • Pickpockets: watch your bags on Alibus, at Piazza Garibaldi and on the Circumvesuviana.
  • Tipping: not expected; rounding up is common.
  • Leaving the coast: allow at least five hours from Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast to your flight, as the airport and Curreri both recommend, because summer traffic is unpredictable.
