Prague Airport trolleybus 59 and metro: the cheapest route
Trolleybus 59 replaced the well-known bus 119 in March 2024 and follows the same route and timetable. It runs from the stops in front of the arrival halls of Terminal 1 (non-Schengen flights such as the UK, US and Canada) and Terminal 2 (Schengen flights) to Nádraží Veleslavín, a ride of around 15 minutes. At Veleslavín you change to metro line A, which takes you to Malostranská, Staroměstská, Můstek and Muzeum. Prague Public Transport (PID) quotes about 35 minutes in total to the centre.
The vehicles are 24-metre double-articulated trolleybuses with more luggage space than the old buses, but they get crowded in the late afternoon. Buses leave at intervals of a few minutes for most of the day. The metro generally runs from about 05:00 until midnight, so if you land after about 23:00 check the timetable on pid.cz or use the night buses below.
Prague Airport bus tickets and prices (2026)
New PID fares came into force on 1 January 2026. The ticket you need is the 90-minute ticket for Prague, which covers the trolleybus and the metro with unlimited changes:
- 90 minutes: CZK 46 in the PID Lítačka app, CZK 50 on paper, CZK 55 by SMS (≈ €1.90–2.25)
- 30 minutes: CZK 36 app / CZK 39 paper – too short for most airport trips
- 24 hours: CZK 140 app / CZK 150 paper (≈ €5.70–6.10)
- 72 hours: CZK 340 app / CZK 350 paper (≈ €14)
Buy tickets before boarding: at the Prague Public Transit counters in the arrival halls (Terminal 1 from 07:00 to 21:00, Terminal 2 from 09:00 to 21:00), at ticket machines in both terminals and at the stops (most accept contactless cards), or in the PID Lítačka app. App tickets must be activated at least 60 seconds before you board. Paper tickets are stamped in the yellow validator when you board.
Suitcases up to 25 × 45 × 70 cm travel free. A larger case needs a luggage ticket (CZK 23 in the app, CZK 25 on paper), but one large bag is free if you hold a 24-hour or longer ticket – a good reason to buy the 24-hour ticket on arrival day.
Bus 100 to Zličín and bus 191
Bus 100 runs from both terminals to Zličín, the western end of metro line B, in about 18 minutes; the full trip to the centre takes around 45 minutes. It is the better choice if your hotel is near Anděl, Karlovo náměstí or Náměstí Republiky. Bus 191 is a slow local line (around 50 minutes) via Petřiny (metro A) to Anděl (metro B) and is only worth it if it drops you near your accommodation. Both use the same PID tickets as line 59.
Airport Express bus to Prague main station
The Airport Express (AE) is a direct bus from Terminal 1 to Praha hlavní nádraží, Prague’s main railway station, stopping on Wilsonova street in front of the historic Fanta building. The trip takes about 40–45 minutes depending on traffic. Regular PID tickets are not valid: the AE costs CZK 200 (≈ €8), usually bought from the driver (the airport’s Visitor Centres are temporarily closed). If you have a Czech Railways (ČD) ticket to Prague main station with the “VLAK+” option, the AE ride is included.
The AE makes most sense if you are continuing by train to Brno, Český Krumlov or abroad. Note that since August 2026 the bus stops at Hlavní nádraží have been temporarily moved because of works around the station; follow the signs or check pid.cz.
Night arrivals: Prague Airport night buses
Between roughly midnight and 04:30 the metro is closed and night lines take over. Night bus 907 runs from Terminal 2 via Hradčanská, Hlavní nádraží, Karlovo náměstí and Anděl, and night bus 910 via Švandovo divadlo and I. P. Pavlova. Both leave every 30 minutes and take around 45–50 minutes to the centre, using normal PID tickets. If you land after midnight with luggage or children, a pre-booked car is usually the calmer choice.
Prague Airport taxi fare to the city centre
The official taxi service at Václav Havel Airport is Uber Airport. You can book it in the Uber app (choose “Uber Airport”), at the self-service kiosks (card only) or at the staffed service counters in the arrival halls (card or cash). You receive a six-digit PIN, which you give the driver at the pick-up point directly in front of the arrival halls of Terminals 1 and 2. The price is shown before you book. Uber dispatchers help at the exits between 07:00 and 21:00.
Prague’s maximum regulated taxi tariff is CZK 60 boarding fee, CZK 36 per kilometre and CZK 7 per minute of waiting. The airport itself puts the usual fare for the roughly 20 km trip to the centre at around CZK 800 (about €32). The maximum tariff does not apply to app rides where the price is agreed in advance.
Uber, Bolt and other apps
Other ride-hailing apps can be used from Prague Airport; according to the airport, app pick-ups take place at the express car parks (P1 EXPRESS, P2 EXPRESS and PB EXPRESS), with P1 EXPRESS and PB EXPRESS signed as taxi points. Prices vary with demand, so compare the app fare with the Uber Airport price and with a fixed-price transfer before you book.
Pre-booked private transfers from Prague Airport
A pre-booked transfer means a driver tracks your flight, meets you in the arrival hall with a name sign and drives you straight to your address for a price agreed in advance. It is usually worth it when:
- you are three or more people – a fixed price per car often beats several public transport tickets plus luggage fees, and minivans take larger groups;
- you land late at night, after the metro closes;
- you travel with children and need a child or booster seat fitted;
- you have skis, a pram, a wheelchair or lots of luggage;
- you are heading straight out of Prague, for example to Karlovy Vary or Český Krumlov.
Local operators listed on intransfers.com include Prague Airport Transfers, AAA Taxi, Prague Airport Transport and Bohemia Prague Airport Transfers. For wheelchair-accessible vehicles, see Helpdriver. You book directly with the company, so check what the quote includes: waiting time after landing, child seats, luggage limits and the payment method. See all companies on our Prague Airport transfers page, or browse operators across the city on the Prague transfers page.
From Prague Airport to Karlovy Vary, Český Krumlov, Brno and Dresden
Several long-distance coach lines leave directly from Prague Airport, from the stops in front of Terminal 1 under the elevated road to Terminal 2, so you do not need to go into the city first.
- Karlovy Vary (about 120 km): FlixBus and RegioJet run direct coaches from the airport. By car the trip takes around 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. See Karlovy Vary transfers.
- Český Krumlov (about 180 km): FlixBus line 853 links Prague and Český Krumlov; a private car takes around 2 hours 30 minutes. Shuttle operators such as CK Shuttle serve this route. See Český Krumlov transfers.
- Brno (about 210 km): FlixBus line 854 calls at the airport; by road allow around 2 hours 30 minutes. Alternatively take the AE bus to the main station and continue by train. See Brno transfers.
- Dresden (about 150 km): there is no direct airport coach listed by the airport, so take the AE bus to Praha hlavní nádraží for trains to Dresden, or book a car (around 2 hours by motorway). See Dresden transfers.
Tips for getting from Prague Airport to the city
- Use only the official stands. The airport warns against drivers who approach you in the arrival hall. Book through Uber Airport, a ride-hailing app at the express car parks, or a company you have booked in advance.
- Agree or see the price first. With a street taxi the meter must not exceed CZK 60 + CZK 36/km + CZK 7/min. With apps and transfers, the price is fixed at booking.
- Pay by card. Ticket machines, the Uber kiosks and most transfer companies take cards. Keep a little Czech koruna for small purchases – the Czech Republic does not use the euro.
- Buy the 24-hour ticket if you have a big suitcase: it costs CZK 140 in the app and includes one large bag free.
- Allow extra time in traffic. Rush hours on the roads into the city can add a lot of time; road works around the airport (including the Aviatická junction) can slow things further, while the trolleybus and metro are less affected.
- Tipping is not required; rounding up or adding around 10% for a helpful driver is common.
- No train yet. A rail link from the airport to the city is being prepared, but it will not open for several years.
