Updated · 8 min read

How to get from Kraków Airport to the Old Town in 2026: the SKA1 train to Kraków Główny, buses 300 and 902, official taxi zone fares, Uber and Bolt, and onward trips to Zakopane, Wieliczka and Auschwitz.

The easiest way from Kraków Airport to the city centre is the SKA1 train to Kraków Główny, the main station next to the Old Town: it takes about 20 minutes, runs roughly every 30 minutes and a single ticket costs PLN 20 (about €4.70). The cheapest option is city bus 300 for PLN 6–8 (under €2), while the official airport taxi charges fixed distance-based fares, typically around PLN 109–149 (≈ €26–35) to central addresses. For a driver waiting in arrivals, compare operators on our Kraków Airport transfers page.

Kraków Airport train to the city centre (SKA1)

The airport railway station, Kraków Lotnisko, is a covered platform right next to the terminal, linked by a footbridge at first-floor level. Trains are run by Koleje Małopolskie (the regional rail operator) on line SKA1, which goes from the airport through Kraków Główny to Wieliczka. Every train stops at Kraków Główny, so you can board the first one that comes.

  • Journey time: about 20 minutes to Kraków Główny. From there, the Main Market Square (Rynek Główny) is a 10–15 minute walk through the Planty park.
  • Frequency: roughly every 30 minutes for most of the day, with hourly trains at the very start and end of the day. The October–December 2026 timetable shows the first weekday departure from the airport at 04:17 and the last at 23:17. After about 22:00 the gaps get longer, so check the timetable if you land late.
  • Fare: a single ticket from the airport to Kraków Główny costs PLN 20 (about €4.70). Airport to Wieliczka costs PLN 24. Ordinary Kraków city bus and tram tickets are not valid on this train.
  • Tickets: buy from the ticket machines in the terminal (level 0, in front of the arrivals hall), which accept cards, or from the conductor on board (cash or card). Ticket apps such as Koleo also sell Koleje Małopolskie tickets.

The trains have level boarding and space for suitcases, and the route avoids the traffic jams that can slow the roads into town at rush hour. If you are staying in Kazimierz or near Wawel, it can still be quicker to take the train to Główny and then a short tram or taxi ride.

Kraków Airport bus to the city: 300, 902 and others

City buses are the cheapest way into Kraków. The stop for MPK city buses is directly in front of the terminal, on the right as you walk out.

Bus 300 (fast line)

Line 300 is a fast agglomeration line with few stops. It does not go into the Old Town itself: in the city it stops at Muzeum Narodowe (National Museum) and Jubilat, close to the Vistula and a short walk or tram ride from Wawel and the Old Town, and ends at Osiedle Podwawelskie. The ride to Jubilat takes about 20 minutes outside rush hour, and buses run roughly every 15 minutes in the daytime, less often early in the morning and in the evening.

Night bus 902

Night line 902 serves the airport and runs to the Kraków Główny area. It is the cheapest option when you land after the last train, but it runs much less often, so check the departure board in the arrivals hall (a screen near the information desk shows the next city buses) or the MPK timetable.

Other lines (208, 209, 252)

Older guides often mention lines 208 and 252. The airport currently lists line 209, which runs about every two hours and ends at Salwator, and line 252, run by Adam Tours towards Zabierzów. Neither is a practical way into the centre for most visitors, so use bus 300 by day and 902 at night.

Bus tickets

The airport is outside the central zone, so buy a ticket valid for zones I+II+III. Current fares are PLN 6 for a single trip or 30 minutes, PLN 8 for 60 minutes and PLN 9 for 90 minutes (half price for those entitled to reduced fares). A 24-hour ticket for all zones costs PLN 25. Buy from the machines in the arrivals hall (level 0), at the bus stop, or on board by card, and validate your ticket as soon as you board. Fare checks are common and fines are high.

Kraków Airport taxi price to the city centre

Kraków Airport Taxi is the only official taxi service at the airport. Its cars wait at a covered rank right by the terminal and operate 24/7, and the fares are fixed by distance from the airport, regardless of the time of day or day of the week:

  • Up to 2.9 km: PLN 29 · 3–4.9 km: PLN 49 · 5–7.9 km: PLN 69 · 8–11.9 km: PLN 89
  • 12–14.9 km: PLN 109 · 15–18.9 km: PLN 129 · 19–22.9 km: PLN 149 · 23–27 km: PLN 169

The Old Town, Kazimierz and the main station are mostly in the 12–23 km bands, so expect around PLN 109–149 (about €26–35); ask the driver or dispatcher which band your address falls in before you set off. Trips beyond 27 km are agreed with the driver in advance, at no more than PLN 8 per km, and waiting time is charged extra. All major payment cards are accepted, and you can book ahead online or by phone. The ride takes about 25 minutes in normal traffic.

Avoid drivers who approach you inside the terminal offering a ride. Take the official rank, a car ordered through an app, or a transfer you have booked.

Uber and Bolt at Kraków Airport

Uber and Bolt both operate in Kraków. Uber’s airport page shows average recent fares from the airport to the city of about PLN 56 for UberX and PLN 81 for UberXL (around €13–19), but app prices change with demand and are only shown when you request a ride. Follow the pickup directions in the app; the driver may not wait at the nearest exit. Ride-hailing is often cheaper than the official taxi, but at busy times and in the middle of the night waiting times can be longer.

Pre-booked private transfers from Kraków Airport

A pre-booked transfer makes sense when you arrive late at night, travel as a family or group, carry a lot of luggage, need child seats, or are heading straight on to Zakopane, Wieliczka or Oświęcim. The price is fixed in advance, the driver tracks your flight and meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign, and a minivan for six or eight people can cost less per person than several taxis.

You can compare local operators on our Kraków Airport transfers page or browse all Kraków transfers. Companies listed for the airport include:

When you book, confirm the total price for your group, what happens if your flight is delayed, whether child seats cost extra and how payment works.

Getting from Kraków Airport to Zakopane, Wieliczka and Auschwitz

Kraków Airport to Zakopane

Zakopane, in the Tatra mountains, is roughly 110 km by road and usually around 2 to 2½ hours away, longer on winter weekends when the Zakopianka road gets congested. FlixBus runs a few direct coaches a day from the airport, taking around 2 hours 40 minutes to 3 hours. Alternatively, take the train to Kraków Główny and catch one of the frequent coaches to Zakopane, for example with Szwagropol, which runs the Kraków–Nowy Targ–Zakopane route. With skis or a family, a door-to-door car is simpler; see our Zakopane transfers page.

Kraków Airport to Wieliczka Salt Mine

The SKA1 train runs from the airport through Kraków Główny to Wieliczka Rynek-Kopalnia, near the salt mine, in about 45 minutes for PLN 24, with no change. That makes Wieliczka an easy first or last stop if you have a few hours to spare, provided you can store your luggage.

Kraków Airport to Auschwitz-Birkenau (Oświęcim)

The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial is on the edge of Oświęcim, roughly 50 km from Kraków Airport. Lajkonik buses run directly from Kraków to the Memorial car park, and trains go to Oświęcim station, about 1.5 km away. Book your entry slot through the Memorial’s official reservation site before you travel. Many visitors combine the visit with a pre-booked car or tour from the airport or from Kraków; luggage lockers are available at the Memorial car park.

Flying into Katowice instead?

Some flights for Kraków land at Katowice Airport, about 100 km away. Airport coaches such as Matuszek Airport Bus run between Katowice Airport and Kraków.

Tips for arriving at Kraków Airport

  • Night arrivals: the last train leaves the airport just after 23:00. After that, choose night bus 902, the official taxi, an app ride or a pre-booked transfer.
  • Pay in złoty: transport tickets are sold only in PLN. Card payment works at ticket machines, on most buses, with the official taxis and in apps, so you rarely need cash.
  • Validate bus tickets: paper bus tickets must be validated when you board. Train tickets bought from a machine or app are valid as issued.
  • Unofficial drivers: ignore offers of a ride inside the terminal and use the official rank or a booked car.
  • Tipping: rounding up a taxi fare or leaving around 10% for good service is common but not required.
  • Peak traffic: the ring road and the routes into town can be slow at weekday rush hours, when the train is the more reliable choice.
  • Currency exchange: airport exchange rates are usually poor; withdraw złoty from a bank ATM or pay by card instead.
