Landing after midnight? We compare last trains, night buses, 24-hour taxi ranks and the best late-night option at 41 European airports, plus airports that close at night in winter 2026/27.
Landing after midnight in Europe is easy at some airports and hard at others. Of the 41 airports in our guides, only Amsterdam Schiphol and Munich have trains running all night, while Barcelona, Budapest, Bucharest, Dublin, Athens and Tirana have airport buses that run 24 hours a day. At Faro, Malta, Sofia, Belgrade, Geneva and most Greek island airports public transport stops around or before midnight, leaving a taxi or a pre-booked transfer. Corfu closes at night in winter, and Naples is closed to all flights from 1 to 30 November 2026.
The table shows the last train or metro, whether there is a night bus, whether taxis wait around the clock and the best option after midnight at each airport. Each airport name links to our full guide. If you want a driver waiting whatever time you land, compare local companies on our airport pages, such as Athens Airport transfers or Faro Airport transfers.

Night buses after the last train
These airports have no all-night train, but a night bus takes over when the trains or metro stop:
- London Heathrow: the Elizabeth and Piccadilly lines stop around midnight; the Night Tube runs on Friday and Saturday nights (not Terminal 4), and the N9 bus runs every 30 minutes. See Heathrow Airport transfers.

Airports with nothing after midnight
At these airports the last bus or train leaves somewhere between 20:40 and about 01:00. After that the only choices are the taxi rank, an app where one exists, or a driver you have booked.
- Faro: the last regional train from Faro station leaves at 20:40 and buses stop in the evening; nothing runs overnight. Taxis charge about 20% more from 21:00. See Faro Airport transfers.
- Malta: Airport Direct buses stop around midnight and no night buses serve the airport; the white taxi booth is open 24 hours with fixed fares. See Malta Airport transfers.
- Sofia: the metro stops at midnight; use the OK Supertrans desk, where night rates apply from 22:00 to 06:00. See Sofia Airport transfers.
- Belgrade: buses 72 and 600 stop around midnight and the A1 minibus does not run all night. See Belgrade Airport transfers.
- Geneva: the last trains leave around midnight to 01:00, mostly towards Lausanne. See Geneva Airport transfers.
- Rome, Milan, Naples, Venice and Nice: trains and airport buses stop between about 23:30 and 01:10; fixed taxi fares (€55, €114, €21–28.50, €40, €32) apply at night too. See Rome Fiumicino Airport transfers, Milan Malpensa Airport transfers, Naples Airport transfers, Venice Airport transfers and Nice Airport transfers.
- Greek and Cypriot islands: buses at Heraklion and Chania run until about midnight in summer, Larnaca’s bus 425 until midnight and Paphos buses until 01:00. See Heraklion Airport transfers, Chania Airport transfers, Larnaca Airport transfers and Paphos Airport transfers.

- Turkey: Istanbul’s metro runs from early morning to late evening, and Antalya’s tram until about midnight. At Bodrum and Dalaman the shuttle buses say they meet every flight, but confirm before a small-hours landing. See Istanbul Airport transfers, Antalya Airport transfers, Bodrum Airport transfers and Dalaman Airport transfers.
- Croatia: Dubrovnik’s Platanus shuttle runs until the last flight, and Split’s bus 37 until about 00:15. See Dubrovnik Airport transfers and Split Airport transfers.
Airports that close at night (2026/27)
- Corfu: from 6 November 2026 to 27 March 2027 the airport is open only from 07:00 to 22:30, and all flights are suspended from 20 to 28 January 2027 for runway works. See our Corfu guide and Corfu Airport transfers.
- Naples: closed to all flights from 1 to 30 November 2026 for runway and taxiway works; some flights move to Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport. See our Naples guide.
Delayed flights are the main risk at airports with night limits: if your flight is diverted, the airline arranges onward transport, but a pre-booked driver will need to know.
Night taxi fares: what changes after dark
- Fixed fares that rise at night: Athens €50 → €65 (midnight–05:00), Thessaloniki €25 → €35, Lisbon zone fares €16–19 → €20–23 (22:00–07:00).
- Fixed fares that stay the same: Paris CDG (€56/€65), Rome (€55), Milan Malpensa (€114, night supplements included), Malta (no separate night rate on the published table).
- Metered night tariffs: Sofia from 22:00, Faro and Porto from 21:00 (about 20% more), Palma from 21:00, Málaga with a supplement from 00:00 to 06:00, and Greek island taxis from midnight to 05:00.
Ski airports at night
For ski resorts a late landing usually means no public transport at all to the mountains. Lyon’s Rhônexpress runs until midnight but the resort coaches do not run at night; Innsbruck and Salzburg taxis are scarce late at night and on peak Saturdays. See Lyon to Val Thorens and Tignes, Innsbruck to the Tyrol resorts and Salzburg to Saalbach, and book a transfer through Lyon Airport transfers, Innsbruck Airport transfers or Salzburg Airport transfers.
How we compiled this table
Times come from our airport guides, researched in October 2026 from airport and transport operator timetables. Last departures are from the airport and change with summer and winter timetables (most European timetables change in mid-December and at the end of March), with engineering works and on public holidays. Where a source was unclear we say “about”. Check the operator’s app on the day you fly.
Tips for landing late at night
- Check the last departure on the day, not in a guidebook: works often cut late trains (Athens and Vienna in 2026).
- Use only the official taxi rank or desk. Touts in empty arrivals halls late at night are the most common airport taxi problem.
- Know the night fare – €65 in Athens, €35 in Thessaloniki – before you queue.
- Apps thin out after midnight, especially at regional airports such as Paphos, Bodrum or Corfu; do not rely on one.
- Carry some local cash for night buses and taxis in Serbia, Albania, Turkey and Greece.
- Pre-book for a delayed or very late flight: a transfer company tracks your flight and waits. Compare companies on Malta Airport transfers, Sofia Airport transfers or Belgrade Airport transfers.
