Altibus coach, train via Moûtiers, shared shuttle or private transfer? 2026/27 prices, journey times and Saturday traffic tips for getting from Geneva Airport to Les 3 Vallées resorts.
The cheapest way to get from Geneva Airport to Courchevel, Méribel or Val Thorens is the Altibus coach to the Tarentaise valley, with fares from €47 for adults in winter 2026/27, while a pre-booked Geneva Airport transfer is the easiest way to reach your chalet door. Allow around 2.5 to 3.5 hours by road, depending on the resort and the traffic: Moûtiers, the gateway town at the foot of Les 3 Vallées, is about 2 hours from Geneva, and the resorts are up to an hour further up the mountain roads.
This guide covers the winter 2026/27 season (December 2026 to April 2027) and compares coaches, trains, shared shuttles, private transfers, taxis and hire cars, plus Lyon and Chambéry as alternative airports.

Les 3 Vallées links Courchevel, Méribel, Val Thorens, Les Menuires, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, La Tania, Brides-les-Bains and Orelle. Every road and rail route to them passes through Moûtiers, so the town is the key interchange whichever option you choose.
Geneva Airport to Courchevel, Méribel and Val Thorens by bus (Altibus)
For winter 2026/27, Altibus runs a Geneva Airport line to the Tarentaise from 11 December 2026 to 26 March 2027. It is operated by Transdev Martin, Transdev Savoie, Faure Savoie and EBA Eurobus, and was previously sold as Alpskibus. Stops include Moûtiers, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, Les Menuires, Val Thorens, Méribel, Brides-les-Bains and Courchevel, as well as Aime, Bourg-Saint-Maurice, Tignes and Val d’Isère. Albertville is served on Saturdays only.
Fares and luggage
- Economy fares start from €47 for adults and €32.90 for children aged 3–12. Children under 3 travel free and 3–12-year-olds get 30% off.
- The Eco fare includes one carry-on and one hold bag, with limited refunds. The Premium fare includes one carry-on and two hold items and has more flexible cancellation.
- Skis or a snowboard count as a hold item, so add extra baggage when booking if you have a suitcase as well as skis.
Altibus quotes about 2 hours from Geneva Airport to Moûtiers. Journey times to the resorts themselves are longer, because the coach continues up the mountain roads. Book online in advance, as seats are limited on peak Saturdays. Coaches leave from the airport coach station outside arrivals; check the meeting point on your ticket.
Train to Moûtiers, then bus or taxi
Moûtiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains station is the rail gateway to Les 3 Vallées. From there, buses and taxis climb to the resorts.
Eurostar Snow train from London
For 2026/27, the Eurostar Snow train runs on Saturdays from London St Pancras from 19 December 2026 to 20 February 2027, with a change at Lille Europe. It stops at Chambéry, Albertville, Moûtiers, Aime-La-Plagne, Landry and Bourg-Saint-Maurice, and the full journey takes just under 8 hours. Return trains run from 27 December 2026 to 28 February 2027, mostly on Sunday mornings. Standard fares have been quoted from about £125 (around €145) each way; they rise as trains fill.
TGV and regional trains
Outside the Eurostar dates, French TGV and regional TER trains reach Moûtiers, usually with a change in Paris, Lyon or Chambéry. Travellers flying into Geneva rarely use the train, because the rail route from the airport to Moûtiers involves several changes and is slower than the coach.
From Moûtiers to the resorts
- Bus: Altibus and Cars Région Savoie run regular buses from Moûtiers bus station, next to the train station. Les 3 Vallées quotes about €12 per adult per journey to any resort, with 10% off when booked more than two days ahead. The ride takes under an hour.
- Taxi: the Moûtiers taxi reservation office gives approximate fares for 1–4 people of €65 to Méribel Centre, €75 to Courchevel, €85 to Les Menuires and €110 to Val Thorens.
Shared ski shuttle
A shared shuttle sells you a seat in a minibus with other passengers from similar flights. The driver meets you in arrivals and drops each group at its accommodation. Because Courchevel, Méribel and Val Thorens are in different valleys above Moûtiers, a shuttle covering all three can add significant time to your journey. Ask whether your shuttle serves only your resort.
Shared or private: which works out cheaper?
Shared shuttles charge per person, while private transfers charge per vehicle. For one or two people, a shared seat is usually cheaper. For four to eight people, dividing a private minibus price between the group often matches or beats the cost of buying the same number of shared seats, and you travel directly without waiting for other flights. Always compare a private quote for the whole group before booking seats individually.
Private transfer from Geneva Airport to Les 3 Vallées
A private transfer gives you a fixed price, flight tracking, meet and greet in arrivals and a direct drive to your hotel or chalet. It is worth considering for:
- Families and groups sharing one vehicle price.
- Late or delayed flights, when coaches have left.
- Child seats, which you can request when booking.
- Heavy ski luggage, including board bags and boot bags.
- Chalets away from the bus stops, such as in Courchevel 1850 or Méribel Mottaret.
Compare operators on our Geneva Airport transfers page or the resort pages for Courchevel transfers, Méribel transfers and Val Thorens transfers. Companies listed for these routes include Tarentaise Transport, Taxi Val Thorens, Esprit VIP by Easycabs, Skiidy Gonzales Transfers, Mountain Drop-offs and AlpyBus. Ask each one for a quote for your dates, and confirm what is included: waiting time, ski carriage, child seats and any night or Saturday supplements.
Geneva Airport to Val Thorens taxi
Geneva taxis at the arrivals rank charge Tariff II for trips leaving the canton, set at a maximum of CHF 3.80 per km, plus a CHF 7.80 pick-up charge at the airport and up to CHF 1.50 per bag or pair of skis. On a trip of 2.5 hours or more to Les 3 Vallées, the meter runs into several hundred francs, so a pre-booked private transfer is almost always better value. A cheaper option, if you are already in Moûtiers, is a local taxi up to the resort (see the fares above).
Hiring a car: winter rules, vignette and tolls
Les 3 Vallées’ recommended route from Geneva follows the A41 towards Annecy and Chambéry, then the A430 to Albertville and the N90 to Moûtiers, about 2 hours in normal traffic. From Moûtiers, mountain roads climb to each resort.
- Winter equipment: from 1 November to 31 March, cars in French mountain areas, including the roads to the resorts, must have winter tyres or carry snow chains or snow socks. Confirm the hire car is equipped and learn how to fit chains before you need them.
- Swiss vignette: Swiss motorways require a CHF 40 vignette. Swiss-registered hire cars usually include it. Cars hired in the airport’s France Sector are French-registered and usually do not, so buy an e-vignette online if you will use Swiss motorways.
- French tolls: the A41 and A43 motorways are tolled. Cards are accepted at toll booths.
- Parking: many resorts are largely car-free in the centre and charge for covered parking. Check with your accommodation before arrival.
Saturday transfer day and peak traffic
Most accommodation in Les 3 Vallées changes over on Saturdays. On those days, especially at Christmas, New Year and during the French and UK February holidays, the N90 through Albertville and Moûtiers and the resort access roads can be very congested, and journeys can take much longer than normal. Les 3 Vallées recommends Sunday-to-Sunday stays to avoid the worst traffic. If you must travel on a Saturday, book an early flight, allow plenty of buffer and keep water and snacks in the vehicle.
Ski luggage, child seats and late arrivals
Ski and board bags count as hold items on Altibus and are oversize for most vehicles. Give your transfer company exact numbers of passengers, suitcases and ski bags so they send a suitable vehicle. If you rent skis in the resort, you can travel lighter.
Child seats: France requires suitable child restraints in cars. Coaches and rank taxis rarely provide them, so request seats when booking a private transfer or hire car and give each child’s age and weight.
Night arrivals: coach services are timed to daytime flights. If you land in the evening, a pre-booked private transfer is the most reliable way up to the resort. A tired drive up icy mountain roads after a late flight is best avoided.
Alternative airports and nearby resorts
- Lyon Saint-Exupéry: Altibus runs a winter LYS’Express line from the Terminal 1 bus station to Moûtiers, with connections to Courchevel, Méribel, Val Thorens and Les Menuires. By road, Lyon to Moûtiers is about 2 hours, similar to Geneva.
- Chambéry: the closest airport to Les 3 Vallées, with seasonal winter flights. Chambéry to Moûtiers is about 55 minutes by road.
- Grenoble: about 1 hour 10 minutes from Moûtiers, served by several low-cost airlines in winter.
- Tignes, Val d’Isère and Les Arcs: further up the Tarentaise beyond Moûtiers. See Tignes transfers, Val d’Isère transfers and Les Arcs transfers.
Tips for the journey
- Book early. Altibus seats, Eurostar Snow trains and Saturday transfers sell out first.
- Use licensed drivers only. Use the official taxi rank or a pre-booked company rather than drivers approaching you in arrivals.
- Carry ID: every route crosses from Switzerland into France.
- Currencies: Geneva taxis charge in Swiss francs, French services in euros. Confirm card payment when booking.
- Tipping is not expected, but rounding up for a helpful driver is appreciated.
- Know your resort level. Courchevel has several villages (1300 Le Praz, 1550, 1650 Moriond and 1850), and Méribel includes Méribel Centre and Mottaret. Give your driver the exact address.
