Italy has many airports, and many cities set fixed taxi fares to and from them. For longer trips to the lakes, the mountains or the coast, a pre-booked private transfer is often the easiest choice.
Taxis wait at ranks and use fixed fares or the meter. Fixed fares are per ride, not per person. An NCC (noleggio con conducente) is a licensed car with driver that you book in advance at an agreed price. NCC companies also cover long routes, such as Venice Airport to Cortina or Naples to the Amalfi Coast.
Florence’s historic centre is a limited traffic zone (ZTL). Licensed NCC cars hold transit permits, so they can reach hotels inside it. In Venice, cars stop at Piazzale Roma and you continue by boat or on foot. Cities can change their taxi fares, so check before you travel.

The official fixed fare to central Rome is about €55 per ride.
