Birmingham black cabs since 1961 – open 24/7
Birmingham has licensed black cabs, known as hackney carriages, plus private hire and chauffeur firms with fixed prices for airport runs and long trips. Birmingham Airport is only about 8 miles from the city centre.
Avanti West Coast trains reach London Euston from Birmingham International in about 70 minutes. By car, one chauffeur firm lists Birmingham to Gatwick at about £220, Stansted £200, Luton £170 and Manchester £150, plus Birmingham Airport to Heathrow £180 and to Central London £250, all plus VAT.
Always pre-book private hire through a licensed operator. The city’s largest black cab firm says all its cabs have wheelchair ramps, and its drivers can meet you at the airport with a name card for a small fee. Larger cabs and Mercedes V-Class vans take up to six people, and electric low-emission cabs are also available.
Around £25–30, taking 25 minutes or more.
About 10 minutes to Birmingham International, then the free Air-Rail Link to the terminal.
One chauffeur firm lists about £180 plus VAT per car.
