Transfers to Portorož
Portorož is the main beach and spa resort on the Slovenian coast, next to Piran. It has a marina, casinos, a long promenade and many large hotels, and its small airport handles mainly private flights.
Getting to Portorož
- Trieste Airport (Italy): about 1 hour – usually the closest commercial airport
- Ljubljana Airport: about 1 h 45 min
- Venice Marco Polo and Treviso: about 2.5 hours
- Pula Airport in Croatia: about 1.5 hours
Local taxis
Taxis stand near the big hotels on the seafront and run 24/7 along the coast to Piran, Izola, Koper and Strunjan. Ask for the price before longer rides.
Tips
The coast road between Portorož and Piran is busy in summer, and parking is limited, so taxis and the local shuttle bus are the easiest way to get around. For airport transfers, give your flight number so the driver can track delays.
Many hotels in Portorož can arrange a taxi for you, but booking directly with a local company is usually cheaper and lets you agree the fare first. Drivers often speak Italian, English and German, and Mercedes saloons are common for airport runs. For longer stays, a driver can also take you on day trips to the Karst caves of Postojna and Škocjan, to Ljubljana or across the border to Trieste and Istria.
