Henri Coandă International Airport, better known as Otopeni (OTP), is Romania’s main airport. It lies about 17 km north of central Bucharest. Traffic in Bucharest can be heavy, so the drive takes 30 minutes at night and up to an hour or more at rush hour.
A pre-booked private car from Otopeni to the city centre usually costs €25–40. Minivans for up to 8 people cost a bit more. Most companies listed here offer fixed prices, flight tracking and a meet-and-greet in the arrivals hall, so you do not need to deal with taxi touts.
Otopeni is also the gateway for many trips outside Bucharest:
The train from the airport to Gara de Nord and bus 783 are cheap, but they are slow with luggage and do not run all night. A private transfer is the better choice for families, groups, business travellers and late arrivals. Give the company your flight number so the driver can follow delays.
A pre-booked private transfer usually costs €25–40 to central Bucharest. The ride takes 30–60 minutes depending on traffic.
About 3 hours, longer at weekends when traffic in the Prahova Valley is heavy.
Yes. Romanian and Bulgarian companies run private transfers from Otopeni to Ruse, Varna, Sofia and the Black Sea resorts.
