Airport transfers in Bulgaria
Bulgaria has four international airports: Sofia (SOF), Varna (VAR), Burgas (BOJ) and Plovdiv (PDV). Sofia is the main gateway all year and the closest airport to the ski resorts. Varna and Burgas are busiest in summer, when charter flights bring holidaymakers to the Black Sea coast. A private airport transfer is usually the easiest way to reach your hotel, especially with luggage, children or skis.
Ski transfers to Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo
In winter most transfers run from Sofia Airport to Bansko (about 160 km, 2.5–3 hours) and Borovets (about 70 km, 1–1.5 hours). Pamporovo is closer to Plovdiv Airport. Book ahead on Saturdays in January and February, when most ski weeks start and the best drivers are fully booked.
Black Sea resort transfers
For Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Sveti Vlas and Sozopol, fly into Burgas. For Golden Sands, Albena and Balchik, Varna Airport is closer. Both airports are only 20–40 minutes from the main resorts by car.
How much does a private transfer in Bulgaria cost?
Since 1 January 2026 Bulgaria uses the euro, and most transfer companies quote fixed prices per car. As a guide, listed companies advertise Varna Airport to Golden Sands from about €20–45, Burgas Airport to Sunny Beach from about €25–45, Sofia Airport to the city centre from about €24–40, and Sofia Airport to Bansko from about €80–135 for a private car. Shared ski shuttles to Bansko start from around €22 per person.
Tips for booking a transfer in Bulgaria
- Ask for a fixed price per vehicle, including tolls, fuel and parking.
- Check how long the driver waits for free if your flight is late. 60 minutes is common.
- For ski trips, make sure the car has winter tyres and room for your ski bags.
- Many drivers take bookings on WhatsApp or Viber, which is handy when you land.
