Train, private transfer, taxi or hire car? Journey times, routes, the Vereina car train and WEF week advice for getting from Zurich Airport to St. Moritz, Davos and Klosters in winter 2026/27.
The easiest way to get from Zurich Airport to St. Moritz, Davos or Klosters is the train: Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) takes you to Landquart or Chur, where you change to the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) for the climb into Graubünden. Allow about 2.5 hours to Davos and around 3 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours 45 minutes to St. Moritz, with two changes. A pre-booked Zurich Airport transfer takes you door to door in roughly 2 hours to Davos and about 3 hours to St. Moritz, with no changes and space for skis.
This guide covers the winter 2026/27 season (December 2026 to April 2027) and compares the realistic ways to reach the Engadin and Davos Klosters from Zurich Airport (ZRH), including the January 2027 World Economic Forum week, when Davos gets very busy.

There is no scheduled coach from Zurich Airport to St. Moritz or Davos, and Switzerland has no shared ski-shuttle network on this route comparable to the French Alps. In practice, the choice is between the train and a car, with or without a driver.
Zurich Airport to Davos and Klosters by train
Zurich Airport station sits underneath the Airport Centre, a short walk from arrivals. Trains to Graubünden usually involve a change at Zürich HB (main station) onto a service to Landquart, where you change again to the RhB. The Davos line climbs through the Prättigau valley via Klosters, so both resorts are on the same train.
- Journey time: about 2.5 hours to Davos Platz in total, slightly less to Klosters Platz. Zurich HB to Landquart takes just over an hour, and Landquart to Davos roughly another hour and ten minutes.
- Stations: Klosters Platz serves Klosters; Davos Dorf and Davos Platz serve the two halves of Davos. Check which is closer to your hotel.
- Tickets: buy a single through-ticket from “Zürich Flughafen” to your destination on the SBB app or website, or at the ticket machines and SBB counter at the airport station. One ticket covers both SBB and RhB trains.
Swiss full fares are high, but SBB sells limited-availability Saver tickets on specific trains, and the Half Fare travelcard cuts prices by half. Families should check the Junior travelcard and child fares before buying.
Zurich Airport to St. Moritz by train
There are two usual rail routes to St. Moritz, both with two changes:
- Via Chur and the Albula line: airport train to Zürich HB, intercity to Chur, then the RhB through the Albula Tunnel and over the Landwasser Viaduct to St. Moritz. This is the classic UNESCO World Heritage route.
- Via Landquart and the Vereina Tunnel: airport train to Zürich HB, train to Landquart, then the RhB via Klosters and the Vereina rail tunnel into the Lower Engadin, continuing to St. Moritz. Depending on connections, this can be the faster option.
Allow roughly 3 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours 45 minutes from the airport, depending on the connection you catch. Trains run through the day, roughly hourly. St. Moritz station sits by the lake, below the village centre; hotels and taxis wait outside.
Luggage on Swiss trains
Swiss trains have luggage racks and space for skis, but changes at Zürich HB, Landquart or Chur involve stairs, ramps or lifts. If you are carrying a lot, SBB offers luggage forwarding services from stations, including for flight luggage; check current conditions and lead times on sbb.ch before you travel, because baggage may arrive later than you do.
Private transfer from Zurich Airport to St. Moritz, Davos and Klosters
A pre-booked private transfer is the most comfortable way to reach Graubünden, especially in winter. The driver tracks your flight, meets you in the arrivals hall, loads skis and luggage, and drives you directly to your hotel or chalet. You pay one agreed price per vehicle, not per person. It is worth considering for:
- Families and groups, where the vehicle price is shared and there are no train changes with children and bags.
- Late arrivals, when a 3-hour rail journey with two changes would get you in near midnight.
- Ski equipment, boot bags and buggies.
- Child seats, which you can request when booking.
- Chalets away from the station, for example in Celerina, Pontresina, Champfèr or above Klosters.
Our Zurich Airport transfers page lists companies that serve Graubünden, and the St. Moritz transfers and Davos transfers pages cover operators based in the mountains. Companies listed for these routes include RB Limousine St. Moritz, Taxi St. Moritz AG, Gotschna Taxi Klosters + Davos, FoppAndGo Davos, Swiss Top Transfer and GLM General Limousine Management. Ask each company directly for a fixed quote and confirm what is included: waiting time for delayed flights, ski carriage, child seats and any night or holiday supplements.
Local taxi companies in St. Moritz, Davos and Klosters can often do an airport run too. Booking a car based in the mountains for your return journey avoids paying for an empty vehicle driving up from Zurich.
Zurich Airport taxi to St. Moritz or Davos
Licensed taxis wait outside arrivals at Zurich Airport, but they run on the meter, and a trip of 150 to 200 km into the mountains adds up to a very large fare. Unless you have no other option, ask a transfer company or mountain-based taxi for a fixed price in advance. Uber operates in the Zurich area, but long mountain trips are not something to rely on, especially on a busy winter Saturday.
Driving: routes, passes and the Vereina car train
The motorway from Zurich runs along Lake Zurich and the Walensee to Landquart and Chur (A3, then A13). From there, the route depends on where you are going.
Davos and Klosters
Leave the motorway at Landquart and follow the main road through the Prättigau valley to Klosters and on to Davos. The local tourism board puts the drive from Zurich at about 2 hours, depending on traffic. Klosters is about 30 minutes before Davos.
St. Moritz in winter
- Julier Pass (from Chur via Lenzerheide and Savognin): the usual winter road route. It is open all year, but winter equipment is required and chains may be compulsory, or the pass closed for short periods, after heavy snow. Allow about 3 hours from Zurich in normal conditions.
- Albula Pass: closed in winter, so not an option for a ski trip. The railway tunnel underneath stays open.
- Vereina car train: from Klosters Selfranga, the RhB carries cars through the 19 km Vereina Tunnel to Sagliains in the Lower Engadin in about 18 minutes, avoiding mountain passes. From there you drive up the valley to St. Moritz. In winter 2026/27 (1 December 2026 to 30 April 2027), a single crossing for a car costs CHF 41.00 at the counter or CHF 39.50 online. Trains run every 30 minutes for most of the day, with the last winter departures at 23:50 from Klosters and 00:20 from Sagliains. Expect queues at weekends in peak season.
Swiss vignette and winter equipment
Any car using Swiss motorways needs the CHF 40 vignette. The 2026 vignette is valid until 31 January 2027, and the 2027 vignette from 1 December 2026. Hire cars registered in Switzerland normally include it. Switzerland has no fixed winter-tyre date, but drivers whose cars are not fit for the conditions can be held responsible after an accident, so make sure the hire car has winter tyres and carry chains on mountain roads. Davos Klosters advises that chains may be required after snowfall unless you are driving a four-wheel-drive car.
WEF week and peak traffic
The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting takes place in Davos from 18 to 22 January 2027. During that week and the days either side, accommodation and transfer vehicles are booked up, and security controls and traffic restrictions affect roads into Davos. If you are skiing in Davos or Klosters that week, book transport well ahead and allow extra time. St. Moritz is far less affected, but some transfer vehicles from Zurich may be committed to WEF work.
At other times, the busiest periods are Christmas and New Year, February weekends and Swiss school holidays. Saturday is the main changeover day for many holiday apartments, and traffic towards Chur and Landquart builds on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons.
Ski luggage, child seats and late arrivals
- Skis and boards: declare ski bags when booking a transfer so the company sends a large enough vehicle. On the train, carry skis in a bag and be ready to move them at each change.
- Child seats: Swiss law requires suitable child restraints in cars. Taxis rarely carry seats for toddlers, so request them when you book a transfer or hire car.
- Late arrivals: trains run until late evening, but a flight landing after about 20:00 will put you in St. Moritz close to midnight with two changes. A pre-booked transfer with flight tracking is the simpler choice.
Engadin Airport Samedan and other gateways
Engadin Airport at Samedan, around 5 km from St. Moritz and at about 1,707 m above sea level, has no scheduled passenger flights. It handles private jets, charter flights and air taxis, so for most travellers Zurich remains the main gateway.
- Zurich city: if you are spending a night in the city first, see our guide to getting from Zurich Airport to the city centre. Trains to Graubünden leave from Zürich HB.
- Lugano and Ticino: some visitors combine the Engadin with the Italian-speaking south of Switzerland. See Lugano transfers for companies there.
- Between the resorts: Davos and St. Moritz are linked by rail via Filisur, and by road via the Vereina car train, so a split stay is easy to arrange.
Tips for the journey
- Buy one through-ticket. A single SBB ticket from Zürich Flughafen covers both SBB and RhB trains, and Saver tickets are tied to specific trains.
- Use licensed drivers only. Avoid anyone offering rides in the arrivals hall; use the official taxi rank or a company you have booked.
- Pay in Swiss francs or by card. Most transfer companies and taxis accept cards, but confirm when booking.
- Tipping is not expected in Switzerland, though rounding up is appreciated.
- Check the passes. If you are driving, look up road conditions for the Julier Pass and the Vereina car train before setting off.
- Book early for WEF and February. Vehicles and drivers in Davos and St. Moritz are limited at peak times.
Once you have chosen how to travel, compare companies on our Zurich Airport transfers page and book directly with the operator. For official details, see the St. Moritz arrival information, the RhB Vereina car transporter and the Swiss vignette rules.
