Stansted Airport to London transfers
London Stansted (STN) is 31 miles (50 km) north-east of Central London. It handled about 29.7 million passengers in 2024 and is Ryanair’s largest base, so very early and late flights are common. Plan your transfer before you land.
Stansted to London by train and coach
- Stansted Express: Liverpool Street in 48 minutes, every 15 minutes by day, advance tickets from about £9.90
- National Express: over 100 coaches a day, from about £10.50 one way
- A8 coach to Victoria and Liverpool Street; A9 to Stratford and Liverpool Street
- Tottenham Hale to Stansted by coach: about 45 minutes
Stansted Airport taxi and private hire
Local private hire cars are licensed by Uttlesford District Council. Pre-book a fixed fare with a licensed operator and ask whether meet and greet is included. One local firm says online bookings are about 20% cheaper than phone bookings. Stansted firms also run airport-to-airport trips to Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton.
Stansted drop-off charge
Express Set Down costs £7 for up to 15 minutes and £25 for longer. There are no barriers: number plates are read by camera, so pay online or by phone by midnight the next day. A free drop-off option in the Mid Stay car park, with a shuttle bus, has been reported, so check the airport website.
