Airport transfers in Montenegro
Montenegro is small, but its mountain roads are slow and public transport does not match flight times well. Pre-booked transfers are the easiest way to reach the Bay of Kotor, the Budva Riviera or the ski resorts. Montenegro uses the euro, and many companies charge per car, not per person.
Which airport for Montenegro?
- Tivat Airport (TIV) – closest to Kotor and Budva
- Podgorica Airport (TGD) – the capital, best for the mountains and the south coast
- Dubrovnik Airport (Croatia) – more flights, about 30–45 minutes from Herceg Novi
Typical transfer prices
Tivat Airport to Budva usually costs €30–60 and to Kotor about €50. Podgorica Airport to Budva costs about €45–55. Dubrovnik Airport to Kotor ranges from about €95 to €220, and to Budva from about €115 to €270, so it pays to compare.
Mountains and ski resorts
Kolašin and Žabljak are the main ski and hiking resorts. Podgorica Airport is the closest airport, about 1.5 and 2.5 hours away.
Cross-border trips
Montenegrin companies also drive to Dubrovnik, Tirana in Albania, Sarajevo and Mostar in Bosnia, and Belgrade. Bring your passport and allow time for border queues in summer.
Albania and Bosnia from Montenegro
Montenegro borders Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Transfers from Shkodër to Podgorica cost about €90 and to Kotor about €150.
Montenegro also borders Kosovo; the Kulla crossing links Rožaje with Peja.
