Budapest taxis and private transfers
Budapest has metro, tram and bus lines that cover most sightseeing. Taxis and private transfer firms are useful for heavy luggage, late nights and long trips to Lake Balaton, other Hungarian cities or Vienna.
Budapest taxi prices and tickets
Every Budapest taxi must charge the same regulated tariff. Since 1 August 2026 it is HUF 1,300 to start, HUF 521 per km and HUF 130 per minute, the first rise since January 2023. All licensed taxis use these meter rates, so the price should not change between firms. Public transport tickets cost about HUF 500 for a single, HUF 850 for 90 minutes and HUF 2,750 for a 24-hour travelcard, and a 24-hour Budapest Card costs about HUF 17,990.
