Wheelchair-accessible transfers in Budapest
Most visitors arrive at Budapest Airport, about 16 km south-east of the city centre. Debrecen and Hévíz-Balaton have small airports with few flights, so many travellers heading to Lake Balaton, Hévíz or the regional cities land in Budapest or Vienna and continue by road or rail.
Taxis in Budapest all use one tariff set by law. Since 1 August 2026 it is HUF 1,300 to start, HUF 521 per km and HUF 130 per minute, plus HUF 800 on airport trips. Főtaxi is the airport’s official taxi partner, and a ride to central Pest costs about HUF 14,000. The 100E Airport Express bus reaches Deák Ferenc tér in about 40 minutes for about HUF 2,500. More tips are in our Budapest Airport guide.
Summer weekend traffic on the M7 can add 30–60 minutes to Balaton trips.
Railjet and EuroCity trains link Budapest Keleti with Vienna in about 2 h 40, roughly hourly, with fares from about €13. Many Balaton and Hévíz transfer firms also drive to Vienna Airport.
