Getting from Heraklion Airport to your hotel
Heraklion Airport (HER), also called Nikos Kazantzakis Airport, is Crete’s main airport and sits only about 5 km east of Heraklion city. Most beach resorts lie east along the north coast, so the drive to your hotel is usually short. Buses run to Heraklion and some resorts, but a private transfer is easier with luggage and children.
Transfer times from Heraklion Airport
- Heraklion city: about 10–15 minutes
- Hersonissos and Malia: about 25–40 minutes
- Sissi, Agios Nikolaos and Elounda: about 45–60 minutes
- Rethymno: about 1 hour 15 minutes
- Chania: about 2 hours
