Venice Marco Polo or Treviso? Compare distance, flights, buses, trains, water buses and taxi fares from each airport to Piazzale Roma and Mestre, and which airport suits your Venice trip.
Venice or Treviso airport? Venice Marco Polo (VCE) is the closer and better-connected choice: the ATVO express bus reaches Piazzale Roma in about 20 minutes for €12, a land taxi costs a fixed €40, and Alilaguna water buses (€18) go straight to San Marco and Rialto. Treviso (TSF), mainly used by low-cost airlines, is further out: ATVO’s bus takes about 40 minutes to Piazzale Roma, with fares reported at around €12, and a taxi costs far more. Pick Treviso when the flight saving is bigger than the extra time and fare. For a driver waiting at arrivals, compare companies on our Venice Airport transfers and Treviso Airport transfers pages.

Treviso airport to Venice: how far is it?
Treviso’s Antonio Canova airport sits just outside the town of Treviso, north of Venice on the mainland. By road Piazzale Roma, the bus terminal at the edge of historic Venice, is around 30–35 km away, compared with about 12 km from Marco Polo. There is no railway station at either airport, and no water bus from Treviso, so every route to Venice from Treviso ends at Piazzale Roma, Tronchetto or Mestre station.
Treviso airport to Venice by bus
ATVO bus to Piazzale Roma
ATVO runs the Treviso Airport Bus Express (route 351) from the stop outside Arrivals to Venezia Mestre station and Venice Piazzale Roma. ATVO gives the journey time as about 30 minutes to Mestre and about 40 minutes to Venice. On the winter timetable valid from 25 October 2026 to 27 March 2027, buses leave the airport roughly between 07:50 and 22:10, about 20 runs a day, and departures may shift to match flight arrivals – a service can be cancelled if its flight is. Fares are reported at around €12 single and €22 return; ATVO does not show the price on its route page, so check when booking. Buy tickets online at ATVO’s web ticketing, in the My ATVO app, from the machine in baggage reclaim, or at the ATVO ticket office in the arrivals hall.
Barzi Service bus to Mestre and Tronchetto
Barzi Service runs direct buses from the airport to Venezia Mestre railway station and to Tronchetto, the car park island next to Piazzale Roma linked by the People Mover. Reported journey times are around 30 minutes to Mestre and 40 minutes to Tronchetto, with fares around €10 single and €18 return. Barzi does not publish its fares on its home page, so confirm when booking.
Treviso to Venice by bus and train
MOM line 6 and the Treviso AirLink bus link the airport with Treviso Centrale station (stop at De Gasperi, opposite the station) in about 10 minutes, roughly every 30 minutes, for around €1.30–1.50 bought in advance (more on board). From Treviso, frequent regional trains run to Venezia Santa Lucia in around 30–40 minutes, with fares around €4, also stopping at Venezia Mestre. This is the cheapest way to Venice and the most reliable when the roads are busy, but it means a change with luggage. Santa Lucia station is on the Grand Canal, next to the vaporetto stops.
Treviso airport taxi to Venice
Taxis are run by Radio Taxi Treviso, 24 hours a day (+39 0422 431515). The cooperative publishes a €15 minimum fare to and from the airport, which covers a ride into Treviso, plus a 20% night and holiday supplement and 10% extra for the fifth and sixth passenger. Longer trips run on the meter or at fares the cooperative quotes; prices reported for 2026 are around €64 to Mestre station and around €76 to Piazzale Roma, before night or holiday supplements. That is roughly double the €40 fixed fare from Marco Polo, so for a group a pre-booked car is worth comparing.
Venice Marco Polo airport to Venice
Marco Polo is on the lagoon edge at Tessera and is the easier airport for most visitors. The options, from our full Venice Airport to city centre guide:
- ATVO express bus: about 20 minutes to Piazzale Roma, €12 single or €20 return, about every 30 minutes from around 06:00 to 01:10, with unlimited luggage.
- ACTV Aerobus line 5: €10 single (valid 75 minutes), or €18 with 90 minutes on the vaporetti; you can tap a contactless card.
- Alilaguna water bus: €18 single from the airport dock to San Marco, Rialto, Murano and other stops – slow, but no change needed.
- Land taxi: fixed €40 to Piazzale Roma or €35 to Mestre centre.
- Water taxi: a private boat to near your hotel; priced per boat and quoted when you book.
Venice or Treviso: which is cheaper overall?
For one person travelling light, the bus costs about the same from either airport (around €10–12), so the difference is time: Treviso adds roughly 20–30 minutes each way, and its buses are tied to flight times. For a couple or a family, the taxi gap matters more – €40 from Marco Polo against around €75 from Treviso. Marco Polo also has the Alilaguna boats and water taxis, which Treviso cannot match if your hotel is on a canal. Treviso wins when a low-cost fare to TSF saves more than the extra €30–40 and hour or so of travel, or when you are staying in Treviso or the Prosecco Hills.
Treviso airport to Treviso town and the Prosecco Hills
Treviso itself is only a few minutes from the airport, which makes TSF the obvious choice if you are staying in the town or touring the countryside to the north. MOM line 6 and the Treviso AirLink reach the centre and Treviso Centrale station in about 10 minutes, and a taxi into town is covered by the cooperative’s €15 airport minimum fare. The airport lists connections to the Prosecco Hills, Padua, Vicenza and the Dolomites on its website; for wine villages such as Valdobbiadene and Conegliano, many visitors rent a car or book a driver, as public transport is limited.
What about Verona?
Verona Villafranca is sometimes sold for Venice trips, but it is much further away – well over an hour by road. It makes sense for Lake Garda or Verona itself, combining with Venice by train from Verona Porta Nuova. See Verona Airport transfers and Verona transfers.
Pre-booked private transfers from Venice and Treviso airports
Road transport ends at Piazzale Roma whichever airport you use, so a car is mainly worth it for:
- groups and families, where one minivan can cost less than several tickets – especially from Treviso;
- late arrivals at Treviso, after the last ATVO bus around 22:10;
- hotels in Mestre, on the mainland, or at Jesolo;
- child seats, bulky luggage or a wheelchair;
- trips to the Dolomites, Cortina or Verona, where there are no fixed taxi fares.
Companies listed on intransfers.com include Venice Cab Service, NCC Fedele and Autonoleggi La Fenice, and DolomiaGo for trips to the Dolomites. Compare all operators on our Venice Airport transfers and Treviso Airport transfers pages, or browse Venice transfers. You book directly with the company, so confirm the price, drop-off point (Piazzale Roma for the historic centre), waiting time and child seats in writing.

Tips for Venice’s airports
- Check the airport name. Treviso is often sold as “Venice Treviso”; make sure you know which one your ticket is for.
- Book Treviso buses with your flight in mind. ATVO adjusts departures to arrivals; if your flight is badly delayed, ask at the ATVO desk.
- Last mile on foot: Venice has bridges with steps. Ask your hotel for the nearest vaporetto stop before you arrive.
- Use official taxis. Take taxis from the rank or book in advance, and confirm the fare to Venice before you set off from Treviso.
- Day-trip fee: Venice charged day visitors an access fee on set dates in 2026; overnight guests are exempt. Check the official portal for 2027 dates.
- Leave time going back. The causeway to Piazzale Roma and the roads around Mestre are slow at rush hour.
