Airport transfers in Albania
Albania has one main international airport, Tirana Airport (TIA), also called Rinas or Mother Teresa Airport. Most visitors land there and continue by private transfer to the capital, the beaches of Durrës or the Riviera in the south. Distances are short on the map, but mountain roads mean long drive times.
Main destinations
- Tirana – about 25–30 minutes from the airport
- Durrës – about 35 km, the nearest beach resort
- Vlora – about 2 hours, gateway to the Riviera
- Saranda and Ksamil – about 4.5–5 hours, or by ferry from Corfu
- Shkodër – about 1.5 hours, for Theth and Montenegro
Typical transfer prices
Tirana Airport to Tirana costs about €15–28, to Durrës about €35, to Vlora about €80–110 and to Ksamil about €155. Taxi companies often quote in lek (ALL), for example 1,500 ALL from Tirana to the airport, but euro is widely accepted.
Cross-border transfers
Albania is a good base for a Balkan trip. Drivers go from Shkodër to Podgorica and Kotor, from Tirana to Pristina and Ohrid, and down to Greece. Albania is not in the EU, so passport checks apply.
From Tirana and Kukës, transfers also go to Prizren and Pristina in Kosovo.
